Evaluation board puts eco-design in the picture
To help designers quickly build 200W digital power supplies and adapters from LED and OLED TVs that exceed the toughest energy efficiency and standby regulations, STMicroelectronics offers the STEVAL-NRG011TV board.
It is based on the company’s STNRG011 digital power factor correction (PFC) and resonant LLC converter and can configure and fine-tune operating parameters for optimal performance. No coding is needed as the digital control algorithms are permanently programmed in the controller’s ROM. The board is supplied with a set of sample parameters stored in programmable non-volatile memory (NVM).
The STEVAL-NRG011TV provides a 12V / 4A regulated output to power the television’s controller and audio subsystem and a 65V / 2.5A output for LED backlighting. The AC input voltage ranges from 90 to 264V, making it suitable for use in power supplies and adapters used worldwide.
The performance goes beyond today’s highest eco-design specifications, says ST, achieving full load efficiency over 91 per cent at 115V and 230V AC and no-load mains consumption below 120mW.
The STNRG011 integrates an eight-bit CPU sub system, control logic including PFC and LLC event-driven state machines (SMEDs), an ADC, high-voltage start up circuitry, power management and protection. There is a two-wire interface to handle communication with the external EEPROM as well as remote monitoring and software updates. The STNRG011 is housed in a 20-pin SO20 power package to occupy minimal board space while simplifying board layout said ST.
The STEVAL-NRG011TV is available now and the STNRG011 is in full production.
