EVT WireInspector inspects cables and connectors placement

Cables and connectors can be checked for contact assignment using the EVT WireInspector. The system can be used for a hand-work place or for the automatic cable assembly directly online, where it is integrated in the plant, explains EVT.

Using OneButton train, the definition of the cable colours and their position can be trained with only one click. Only the position of the colour has to be pre-configured. This can be carried out with known good part (‘Golden Part’). This is used by all inspection windows to learn automatically the colour and generate a respective result protocol. The cables are either in the correct position or the inspection can generate a detailed protocol, which lists the position and type of error (e.g. wrong colour, cable not present).

The system allows inspection of component parts in different positions and rotations, which means that it is not necessary to position the component parts in an exactly defined rotation.

There are digital I/Os (eight inputs and eight outputs in 24V technology) available for the implementation of the EVT WireInspector. This allows a signal lamp to indicate an error and a connected monitor shows which cables are effected. The correct cable assignment is shown in a reference image.

The system can be pre-configured for any number of connectors. Different connectors or assembly variations are easily inspected. They can either be transferred via a master computer or a coder reader is connected to the system, which switches the inspection programs according to the code.

The adaption of the inspection for complex cables is also carried out with a few mouse clicks.

There are different interfaces available for fully automated systems, e.g. direct Profinet connection to a PLC, to which the inspection result is also delivered via Profinet or the I/O-based communication with 24V option.

The EVT WireInspector is delivered with one camera, depending on the size of the connector, in different resolutions such as 1.0, 2.0, 5.0 and 6.0Mpixel. Depending on the application it is also possible to use a higher resolution or more than one camera.

The smallest EVT WireInspector system is delivered with an intelligent camera head with integrated LEDs. Other systems are available with different illumination types, based on white LEDs. The illumination can be connected directly to the emSens controller, which offers the possibility to connect up to four illuminations.
