Flex Power Modules extends BMR461 series with design tool support

Digital point of load (PoL) regulators from Flex Power Modules in the BMR461 series now include the BMR4615001/001, which provides up to 15A/50W at an adjustable output voltage of 0.6 to 3.3V. According to Flex Power Modules, this equates to a 25 per cent higher current and power delivery at 3.3V than the previous 12A maximum for that voltage. The input voltage range of the device is 4.5 to 14V.

The higher output offers increased current and power in a compact 12.2 x 12.2 x 8.0mm (0.48 x 0.48 x 0.315-inch) package to save PCB space due to higher power density. Suitable applications include wireless and fixed telecomms infrastructure, datacomms, such as network routers and data centres and industrial applications including industry 4.0 and process automation.

The regulator is part of a family of the BMR461 series of scalable digital PoL regulators. Each member of the series includes a digital PMBus interface to provide advanced monitoring, configuration and control capabilities, and is supported by the Flex Power Designer design tool.

It was introduced in response to customer feedback. Olle Hellgren, director of product management and business development at Flex Power Modules, said: “Our customers are telling us they have increased current requirements, including for the I/O and core voltages for FPGAs, ASICs and processors, and they are also looking for higher power density. The new regulator meets these demands, and builds on the success of our familiar, reliable BMR461 series.”

The regulator is designed in accordance with the safety standards IEC/EN/UL 62368-1. Reliability is high, with a mean time between failure (MTBF) of 24 million hours.

The BMR4615001/001 is available in OEM quantities in November.

Flex Power Modules, a division of Flex, designs and manufactures scalable power supply solutions that improve the operational efficiencies of advanced data centre, IT information and communications networks. Flex Power Modules also offers a product range for the industrial/transportation sector. Flex Power Modules’ products provide a complete on-board system solution for cloud, storage and server applications.
