Flexible printed circuit connectors save time, says Omron

Omron Electronic Components Europe says its rotary backlock flexible printed circuit (FPC) connector range saves users time. The XF series of FPC connectors is a space-effective option for interconnecting PCBs and connecting boards to displays, says the company.

Omron’s backlock on the XF2M and its XF3M ranges give the benefit of reducing the risk of the cable movement lifting the locking mechanism in use. The rotary latch is independent of the FPC socket and will not release if the FPC is lifted. The mounting reliability is further enhanced by the four-sided housing that holds the FPC, preventing displacement, says Omron. The dual-sided contact also provides flexibility for engineers at the design stage and the applicable FPC/FFC (flexible flt cable) thickness is just 0.3mm (gold-plated type).  The range includes connectors with between six and 60 pins available on reels of 100 or 1500 pieces. Pitch sizes range from 0.25 to 0.5mm

Applications include wearables, smart phones, projectors, ultrasound, security and embedded modules. Andries de Bruin, senior European product marketing manager, Omron, said “Many manufacturers supply their FPC connectors with the latch in close position but Omron’s backlock mechanism mean that we can ship with the lock in the open position. This saves time, which on a high volume production line can add up to considerable cost savings too.”

Omron Electronic Components Europe provides electromechanical PCB relays, micro switches, MOSFET relays, DIP switches, photo microsensors and connectors. Omron’s innovative technologies include MEMS-based pressure, flow and thermal measurement sensors, human face and gesture recognition modules, vibration and tilt sensors.

Omron Electronic Components Europe supports its customers in western and eastern Europe, Russia and the Commonwealth of Independent States through eight regional offices, a network of local offices and partnerships with specialist, local, regional and global distributors.
