Four-channel ESD protection devices are aimed at vehicle multimedia systems

Four-channel ESD protection devices make up the PESD4USBx series. Nexperia says they are aimed specifically at protecting the high-speed interfaces found in automotive applications, especially the in-vehicle networks (IVN) associated with infotainment and vehicle communications.

The increasing data rates and rise of electric content in vehicles means that the need for EMC protection becomes more critical, continued the company. Nexperia’s TrEOS technology optimises signal integrity, system protection and robustness for ESD protection to result in a combination of low capacitance, low clamping voltage and high ESD robustness.

The PESD4USBx series comprises a total of 12 high-performance, four-channel ESD protection devices that incorporate TrEOS technology. Low line capacitance of as little as 0.25 pF per channel ensures signal integrity with sub-0.05 pF line matching capacitance. All devices in the series offer deep snapback and low resistance (0.4 Ohm). ESD protection for the PESD4USBx series is up to ±15kV, enabling the devices to meet IEC61000-4-2 level 4 and ISO10605. According to Nexperia, this is the highest level of ESD protection currently available in this package size. These qualities make them suitable for densely-packed automotive designs.

Interface standards supported include USB 2.0, Superspeed USB at 10Gbits per second, HDMI 2.0, HDBaseT and automotive audio/visual (A/V) monitors, displays and cameras. PESD4USBx devices also support video links (SerDes): GMSL, FPD-Link and LVDS.

Devices exceed the requirements of the automotive standard AEC-Q101 by a factor of two, reports Nexperia. They are supplied in DFN2510D packages (SOT1165D and SOT1176D), side-wettable flanks (SWF) as standard, allowing the use of automatic optical inspection (AOI).

Samples and production quantities are available now.

Nexperia specialises in high-volume production of essential semiconductors, components, with an extensive portfolio which includes diodes, bipolar transistors, ESD protection devices, MOSFETs, GaN FETs and analogue and logic ICs.

Headquartered in Nijmegen, the Netherlands, Nexperia meets the stringent standards set by the automotive industry.

Nexperia has employees across Asia, Europe and the US, an extensive IP portfolio and is certified to IATF 16949, ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
