Heitec adds sub-racks based on open standard architecture
Standard products available from Heitec now include sub-racks based on the VPX/OpenVPX and CompactPCI-Serial open standards. The sub-racks are particularly suitable for the simple design of modular 3U and 6U platforms, says Heitec, and are used for high-speed backplane technologies and demanding applications. They have robust mechanics and can be delivered fully assembled, pre-wired and tested, including backplane and power supply. They can also be provided as a completely integrated system. Individual configurations, EMC capabilities and ventilation for intensive data processing, can be realised quickly and cost-effectively, claims Heitec. Optimum airflow is ensured by the narrow design of the card guides and profile rails.
New connectors for both CompactPCI Serial and VPX/OpenVPX standards, were defined to meet the requirements of interfaces with fast serial point-to-point connections, to achieve higher transmission rates.
Both VPX/OpenVPX and CompactPCI-Serial standards support Gigabit Ethernet, PCI Express and SATA interfaces. CompactPCI Serial also exclusively provides USB 3.0 and VPX/OpenVPX can integrate Rapid IO-and InfiniBand interfaces. A special connector allows transmission rates of up to 6.25Gbit per second. However, where CompactPCI Serial for 3U modules features a total of 112 differential pairs with respect to the connectors, VPX/OpenVPX has only 56 pairs. For 6U assemblies VPX/OpenVPX allows 184 differential pairs.
There are hybrid standards for both architectures that ensure compatibility with CompactPCI and VME and both standards offer common cooling via fans or airflow but also the option of fanless cooling (conductive cooling), which is especially required when used in harsh environments. In addition, traditional PMC, XMC and FMC modules can be implemented in both architectures, using carrier cards.
