High voltage DC/DC power module can be used in scientific applications

A 30W DC/DC power module introduced by XP Power can generate up to 6kV DC from a single 24V DC input. The HRL30 series provides an accurate high voltage output for a variety of applications, including scientific and semiconductor uses, says the company.

There are 22 voltage options and a range of controllable outputs from 0 to 200V DC to 0 to 6kV DC, available in both positive and negative polarities. The wide input range of 22 to 30V allows the module to be powered by the 24V rail, commonly available in industrial equipment. An integral precision +5V DC reference provides a stable supply to control the high voltage output. Line/load regulation (0.01 per cent) and low ripple/noise (less than 0.05 per cent) are claimed to ensure a stable output voltage.

Both the output current and voltage are programmable over the full range voltage and current monitor outputs are included for remote monitoring.

The HRL30 series modules operate across -40 to +70 degrees C. The baseplate cooled package, design and manufacture, result in a typical 85 per cent efficiency, reports the company.

Arc, short-circuit, overload and thermal protection safeguard both the power module and the equipment in which it is installed. All modules in the HRL30 series are designed to meet EN 60950 and EN62368. Typical applications are mass spectrometry, electrostatic chucks, photomultiplier tubes, E-beam/ion beam, electrophoresis, scanning electron microscopes and capacitor charging.

The HRL30 series is available from Digi-Key, Farnell, Mouser, RS Components, approved regional distributors, or direct from XP Power and offers a three-year warranty.

XP Power provides AC/DC power supplies, DC/DC converters, high voltage power supplies and RF power supplies. It is ISO9001:2008-certified and offers in-house design through to manufacturing facilities around the world.
