Infineon optimises intelligent power module for smart grids
Infineon Technologies has optimised its intelligent power module (IPM) MIPAQ Pro for energy storage and the smart grid, with monitoring and scalability of the high voltage IPM.
Characterised by higher power density, true real time junction temperature detection and secure authentication, the IPM also has an upgraded smart protection and increased design flexibility to reduce efforts for powerstage development and the running system, says Infineon. In this way, small and medium enterprises (SMEs) can implement semiconductors for existing and emerging applications.
The intelligent wiring of the MIPAQ Pro allows for replacing power units and sub-systems which are nominally 50 per cent higher rated. There is also real-time condition monitoring.
In an inverter, the MIPAQ Pro makes changing topology easy, says Infineon. At the end of their production line, customers can choose between chopper- and half-bridge modes via Modbus. The safe operation area of the IPM has also been improved with more robust boards and a software-upgrade leading to higher system availability. Different warning levels can easily be adapted, says Infineon, to specific use-cases helping system operators to generate counter-measures before a potential fault-triggered system shutdown.
