Junkosha unveils 5G / 6G mmWave cables at DesignCon 2021

At DesignCon 2021 this week in San Jose, California, Junkosha is unveiling the MWX6 and MWX001 series cables which are designed to meet the demands of a 5G / 6G.

As data centres deploy optical fibre between components to meet ever faster data transfer speeds, there is rising demand for cables to test and monitor the integrity of digital signals. Junkosha is working with Richardson Electronics to support major test equipment manufacturers. Masaru Omoto, product manager for Junkosha, said: “With the help of Richardson Electronics, we are conducting optical transceiver testing using cabling solutions including the MWX001 and MWX6 series with the aim of delivering error corrected signals from the bit error ratio (BER) tester. From these tests, we can determine how well optical communications systems components will likely operate in their delivery of increasing amounts of data in real time; a critical requirement in the journey to successful 5G and ultimately 6G rollouts.”

Junkosha’s MWX001 cable assembly is claimed to have the lowest insertion loss of any cables for test measurement applications that demand signal stability whilst providing the physical cable flexibility required for test set-ups. It is used for testing components within optical fibre communications systems. Its structure minimises cable insertion loss, says Junkosha, which is optimised for measurement up to 110GHz with 1psec skew matching. The cable also exhibits phase stability for signal transmission with predictable skew performance, for signal integrity.

Junkosha’s MWX6 series provides skew matching with less than 1psec skew between pairs to measure digital transmissions. The cable has low insertion loss, appropriate for measuring high precision differential transmission signals, said the company. There are four types of cables available with frequencies ranging from 26.5 to 67GHz.

DesignCon is being held at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center in California, USA, from August 16th to 18th. Visit Junkosha at Booth Number 827
