Kemet provides polypropylene film capacitors for EV technology

Two AEC-Q200-qualified metallised polypropylene film capacitors from Kemet offer a high-power density solution for harsh environments and electric vehicle (EV) applications, says the company.

The R41T and R76H series are designed for use in EV powertrains and advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). They operate at up to 125 degrees C maximum operating temperature and exceed the requirements of 85 degrees C/85 per cent relative humidity temperature-bias-humidity tests. The film capacitors support the design of high-performance, high-reliability circuits including those based on wide band gap (WBG) semiconductors.

They are designed for the harsh environments of automotive design, using new technology and metallised polypropylene film capacitors to ensure a high level of electrical performance as well as rugged and reliable performance, said Dr Philip Lessner, senior vice president and CTO, at Kemet.

“With silicon approaching the limits of its development, the WBG market is expected to grow significantly, reaching a forecasted $1,820 million in 2024 – an increase of 33.4% over a five-year period,” he continued.

The R41T and R76H series are available immediately via Kemet’s distributors.

Kemet offers customers a broad selection of capacitor technologies as well as electromechanical devices, electromagnetic compatibility products and supercapacitors.
