Low quiescent current step-up DC/DC converters reduce current consumption

The XC9145 series of 400nA low quiescent current, step-up DC/DC converters –XC9145 series have a low current consumption circuit. The DC/DC converters from Torex Semiconductor use a PWM / PFM control method to improve the efficiency at light load, especially at the output current by several microA, compared to conventional products, claims Torex.

Efficiency is rated as follows: Vin is 2.4V, 3.3V at Vout and 10 microA at Iout to reach 89 per cent efficiency. This is suitable for use with microcontrollers and SoCs which have lower power consumption, points out Torex. Without complicated control, the constant boost operation “significantly reduces” the power consumption of devices with a large system standby ratio, such as IoT or portable devices. It also contributes to longer battery life.

The XC9145 is supplied in a small WLP-6-05 package, with dimensions of  1.28 x 1.08mm and a height of 0.4mm for saving space in the IC mounting area. If peripheral parts (small coil, small ceramic capacitor) are externally attached, the mounting area can be accommodated within 5.4 x 6.7mm, confirms Torex. In addition, the high efficiency during standby makes it possible to reduce the size and capacity of the battery to contribute to the miniaturisation of the entire device.

Operating ambient temperature corresponds to 105 degrees C.

The XC9145 series is suitable for industrial equipment, IoT devices as well as mobile and wearable products where small size and high efficiency performance at a light load current are important.

Torex Semiconductor provides CMOS power management ICs (PMICs) for battery powered and energy efficient applications. Torex specialises in CMOS analogue technology, with LDO voltage regulators, voltage detectors and DC/DC converters as its core product offering.
