LPDDR4X DRAM from Samsung has thermal endurance for automobiles

The 16Gbit LPDDR4X DRAM features high thermal endurance, with warranties for up to +125 degree C, says Samsung Electronics. The company has begun mass producing 10nm class 16Gbit LPDDR4X DRAM for automobiles. According to Renesas, it has high performance and energy efficiency while significantly raising the thermal endurance level for automotive applications that often need to operate in extreme environments. The 10nm-class DRAM will also enable the industry’s fastest automotive DRAM-based LPDDR4X interface with the highest density, claims Samsung.

Samsung’s 16Gbit LPDDR4X is automotive Grade 1-compliant, raising the high-end threshold to +125 degree C. It satisfies the rigorous on-system thermal cycling tests of global automotive manufacturers, adds Samsung, to enhance reliability. Even in environments with temperatures up to +125 degrees C, its data processing speed is 4,266Mbits per second, which is a 14 per cent increase from Samsung’s 8.0Gbit LPDDR4 DRAM that is based on 20nm process technology. The new memory also registers a 30 per cent increase in power efficiency.
