Magnetic rotary and linear position sensor is in a single mould package

A single mould package is used for the MLX90377 magnetic rotary and linear position sensor which improves PCB-less integration and manufacturing costs, says Melexis.

The MLX90377 single- and dual-die (fully redundant) Triaxis position sensor is designed for automotive and industrial applications. The magnetic rotary and linear position sensor IC is based on the Triaxis Hall magnetic front end. It integrates an ADC with signal conditioning, DSP and an output stage driver that now supports short pulse width modulation code, ratiometric analogue, PWM, and SENT signal formats. The latest member of the Triaxis position sensor range has stray field robust modes, ASIL-C (single die) capability, and external pin measurement, making it suitable for high performance and safety critical applications.

Package options are SMP-3 and SMP-4 (single mould package, three- and four-pin) for PCB-less designs. The PCB-less package is intended to be used without a PCB, reducing total system cost and improving mechanical integration and reliability, says Melexis. These package outlines are smaller than the existing DMP-4 package and offer better mechanical integration, adds the company.

The SMP-3 is a single die solution and will first be supported by the MLX90377 while the SMP-4 provides a dual die solution (shared power and ground pins) and will first be supported by the MLX90371.

Melexis designs, develops and delivers advanced mixed-signal semiconductor sensor and actuator components to address the challenges of integrating sensing, driving and communication into next-generation products and systems that improve safety, raise efficiency, support sustainability and enhance comfort.

Melexis delivers automotive semiconductor sensors and a portfolio of sensors and driver ICs, which are also used in smart appliances, home automation, industrial and medical applications. Melexis sensing solutions include magnetic sensors, MEMS sensors (pressure, TPMS, infra red), sensor interface ICs, optoelectronic single point and linear array sensors and time of flight. The company’s driver IC portfolio incorporates advanced DC and brushless DC (BLDC) motor controllers, LED drivers and FET pre-driver ICs.

Melexis is headquartered in Belgium with 18 locations worldwide.
