Maxim says dual-photo detector optical sensor is thinnest available
Sensors can be quickly and easily designed into wearable health and fitness products, says Maxim Integrated, using the MAXM86146. It is claimed to be the industry’s thinnest dual-photo detector optical sensor.
The MAXM86146 can be used as a turnkey drop-in module. The integrated algorithms are for heart-rate and oxygen-saturation (SpO2) monitoring, as well as advanced activity classification to enable bio-sensing features in less space and support the rapid development of accurate, continuous health-monitoring devices.
According to Maxim, it offers designers the ability to achieve a 45 per cent thinner optical design when compared with a discrete approach. The module offers ready-to-use bio-sensing algorithms that measure vital signs to the most rigorous medical standards, allowing more time to develop market-differentiating features. According to the company, it saves designers up to six months in bringing new products to market.
The MAXM86146 combines two photo diodes, an optical analogue front end (AFE) and a microcontroller with built-in algorithms (activity classification, heart rate, SpO2) in a 0.88mm package.
The MAXM86146CFU+ is available now.
The company also offers an evaluation kit, the MAXM86146EVSYS# is also available.
Maxim Integrated develops analogue and mixed-signal products and technologies to make systems smaller and smarter, with enhanced security and increased energy efficiency. Its products are used by automotive, industrial, healthcare, mobile consumer and cloud data centre customers.
