Medical-grade desktop adapter meets home healthcare standards

The low profile TPM120 power adapter series from Trumpower is a 96 to 120W medical-grade desktop adapter designed for home healthcare safety standards for class II models.

It has a minimum efficiency of 88 per cent at full load, and meets the latest global energy efficiency standards for external supplies with its compliance to CEC Level VI and EU CoC EPS Verson 5 Tier 2, says Trumpower. It also offers a low no-load power consumption of less than 0.15W.

The compact adapter measures 175 x 90mm (6.9 x 3.55 inches) and is 28mm (1.11 inches) high. It is enclosed in a 94V-0 rated polycarbonate case. Models are available for class I and class II requirements with AC inlet options of IEC320/C6, IEC320/C8, IEC320/C14 and IEC320/C18. Class II models meet IEC 60601-1-11 for home healthcare applications. Both class I and class II models meet IP54 environmental rating.

The units are offered in a large range of nine standard single output voltages between 12 to 48V DC with outputs ranging between 96 and 120W, depending on the model. The standard output connector is a four-pin DIN plug, mating with Kycon KPJX-4S-S socket or equivalent.

Additional connector and cable options are available on request.

The TPM120 power adapters operate with a wide input range of 90 to 264V AC and operating temperatures between -20 to +60 degrees C, while derating linearly from 100 per cent load at +40 degrees C to 50 per cent load at +60 degrees C. The power supply is also equipped with standard over-voltage, over-current, and short circuit protections. The TPM120 adapters are reliable with 100,000 hours minimum MTBF at 25 degrees C ambient, calculated per MIL-HDBK-217F, reports Trumpower. They also support an operating altitude up to 5,000 metres. Earth leakage current measures at 150 microA maximum at 264V AC, 63Hz. The power supply can withstand voltages of 4,000V AC from input to output (2x means of patient protection (MOPP)), 1,500V AC from input to ground (1x MOPP), and 500V AC from output to ground.

The TPM120 series is approved by UL/cUL and TUV to the latest medical standards, including IEC/EN/UL 60601-1 Edition 3.1, ANSI/AAMI ES 60601-1:2012, and CSA C22.2 No. 60601-1:2014. The power adapter complies with IEC/EN 60601-1-2 4th edition medical EMC and immunity standards, including EN 55011, VCCI  and FCC class B (conducted and radiated emissions), EN 61000-3-2, EN 61000-3-3, EN 61000-4-2 (ESD at ±15 KV air and ±8 KV contact), EN 61000-4-3, EN 61000-4-4, EN 61000-4-5, EN 61000-4-6, EN 61000-4-8, EN 61000-4-11.

Trumpower has been delivering medical and industrial grade AC/DC switching power supplies and DC/DC converters for more than 25 years. The company’s medical grade power supplies range from 4W to 1,200W and its line of ITE grade AC/DC power supplies range from 3W to 1,400W in wall mount, desktop, open frame, and ATX PC form factors. TRUMPower says it can accommodate OEMs’ needs, whether they are low volume standard power supplies or high volume custom products.
