Medical-grade terminal from Advantech complies with IEC 60601

Meeting the needs of a diverse range of healthcare applications, the POC-624 is the latest medical-grade terminal released by Advantech.

The point of care (PoC) terminal an 8th gen Intel Core i5 or i7-8665UE processor. According to Advantech, the POC-624 is a high-performance, thin terminal for hospitals, clinics and care homes. It complies with IEC 60601 safety standards for medical devices, offering a reduced time-to-market with its compliance with relevant healthcare regulations.

In addition to the 8th gen Intel i5/i7-8665UE processor there is an integrated NVME SSD, for raid computing. It processes data seven times faster than traditional 2.5 inch SSDs, thereby facilitating real-time data processing and storage. With the inclusion of the Intel Wireless-AC 2×2 solution, POC-624 transmits data more reliably and 12 times faster compared to traditional BGN 1×1 solutions, says Advantech.

The POC-624 has a 24-inch, full HD display with PCAP multi-touch panel and also benefits from a fanless design. It is environmentally sealed in a specially designed plastic enclosure that supports regular sanitisation with disinfectants and sanitising agents. The whole system is IP54-rated for protection from water and dust ingress (front panel IP65) for user safety and to manage the risk of contagion.

The terminal includes USB 3.1 Type C (display function), USB 3.1, and HDMI connectors as well as support for PCIe x4, mini PCIe and M.2 expansion modules. There is also COM and LAN (1.5kV) ports equipped with isolation protection to guard against electromagnetic interference (EMI) or leakage, so that the terminal can be safely integrated with existing infrastructure and equipment.

The POC-624 terminal can be equipped with optional value-added modules, such as an RFID reader or a smart card reader for patient identification and an HD camera and sound bar module for telemedicine applications. The provision of an expansion slot allows add-on cards and customised I/O to be integrated to expand functionalities. There is also an optional hot-swappable power system, optional HD camera and sound bar for telemedicine and optional Wi-fi, Bluetooth, RFID and auto-focus camera functionality.

The terminal supports remote device management via WISE-PaaS/DeviceOn software.
