Mission computing systems are configurable for edge computing

Based on modular building blocks, the ComSys-536x family offers performance and expansion configurations that meet specific computing at the edge requirements, says Elma Electronic.

The Type 6 COM Express-based systems can be configured using a choice of Intel CPUs, ranging from Atom to Xeon, to provide optimum power to performance in a compact, SWaP-optimised platform.

The ComSys-536x systems can be adapted to a user’s requirements via expandable high-capacity SATA storage, which can be upgraded as mission requirements change. I/O configurations span from Gigabit Ethernet, CANbus and Wi-Fi to serial I/O, ARINC-429 and MIL-STD-1553.

A growing number of mission-critical, remote applications need computing at the edge to ensure data integrity and system viability, points out Elma. The ComSys-536x family withstands the harsh environments found in transportation, disaster recovery and mining and drilling operations.

All Elma ComSys platforms include the Cisco 5921 embedded services router (ESR) with Mobile Ready Net capabilities. The 5921 is agnostic and designed for small, low-power, Linux-based platforms. It is therefore adaptable for a range of custom systems that need high-performance, SWaP-optimised embedded computing.

Elma Electronic manufactures commercial, industrial and rugged electronic products for embedded systems and application-ready platforms, from components, embedded boards, backplanes, chassis and enclosures, power supplies, to fully integrated sub-systems.

Elma also offers standard and custom cabinets and enclosures as well as precision components such as rotary switches/encoders, LEDs, front panels and small cases.

Elma leverages proven technology-based, standards-based architectures such as OpenVPX, SOSA, VME, CompactPCI Serial, COM Express and PCIe/104.

Elma Electronic manages entire projects from initial system architecture to specification, design, manufacturing and test through its worldwide production facilities and sales offices. The company serves the mil/aero, transportation, industrial, research and telecomms markets and is certified to ISO 9001 and AS 9100.

The company has US headquarters in Fremont, California and maintains multiple sales, engineering and manufacturing operations in Atlanta, Georgia and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
