Modular DC/DC converter offers design freedom for medical applications

Recom has added the REM2 series to its medical portfolio, describing the latest member as a DC/DC converter that offers versatile features and complete medical certifications.

The modular DC/DC converters provide engineers with more freedom to develop their PCB layout, knowing that they will comply with the stringent regulations for medical certifications, adds the company.

The board-mount REM2 series complements the REM1 series by offering a 2W medical grade DC/DC converter in a compact SIP8 package with either single or dual outputs. The REM2 series features reinforced 5.2kV DC/one minute isolation and two means of patient protection (2MOPP)/250V AC working voltage at 5000m. The modules reach up to 85 per cent efficiency at an operating temperature range from -40 to +80 degrees C without derating and up to +95 degrees C with 50 per cent load. The REM2 DC/DC converters comply to class A/B EMC and 60601-1-2 (4th edition) medical EMC using a simple external LC filter and are certified to CB, IEC/EN, and ANSI/AAMI 60601-1 (3rd edition) medical safety standards.

These medical DC/DC converter modules also come with a five-year warranty. Samples and OEM pricing are available from all authorised distributors or directly from Recom.

Recom Power supplies a range of DC/DC and AC/DC converters in every power class up to 960W, switching regulators and LED drivers in a selection of designs. The company introduced the R-78 switching regulators which have now become an industry standard.
