Murata claims CAN FD Class 3-compatible CMCC is world’s first

Murata has announced the wire-wound common mode choke coil (CMCC) DLW32SH101XF2, which is believed to be the world’s first CMCC to support the most challenging requirements of differential to common mode rejection (DCMR) Class 3. It fulfils the IEC62228-3 requirement for use in controlled area network flexible data (CAN FD), for automotive networks.

As the automotive industry’s data demands increase, faster networks are required to connect electronic control units (ECUs), sensors, and motors. The conventional CAN, which transmits data at a rate of up to 1.0Mbits per second is being replaced with the faster CAN FD.

The DLW32SH101XF2 offers a common-mode inductance of 100 microH and is rated for currents up to 115mA and voltages of 50V DC. The surface mount device is constructed in a tiny 1210 package, measuring just 3.2 x 2.5mm. According to Murata it is the world’s smallest CAN FD CMCC supporting Class 3 due to the companys’ wire-wound structure.

The CMCC is supplied in tape-and-reel format.

The RoHS and REACH-compliant device is capable of operating in temperatures between -40 and +125 degrees C. It is qualified to AEC-Q200 for demanding automotive environments.

Murata manufactures electronic components, modules, and devices. Its product range includes ceramic capacitors, resistors/thermistors, inductors/chokes, timing devices, buzzers, sensors and EMI suppression filters. In addition to ceramic capacitor manufacture, it also provides Bluetooth and Wi-Fi modules, board-mount DC/DC converters and is a key manufacturer of standard and custom AC-DC power supplies.

Established in 1944, Murata is headquartered in Japan and has European offices in Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Switzerland and the UK.
