Neural sensing wireless earphones control devices

Among the wearable devices demonstrated at CES this week, Wisear will be pushing boundaries with its neural sensing wireless earphones. The Finnish company has developed them as a neural interface to seamlessly control devices.

The Perceive earphones use tiny electrodes to record the brain, eyes and facial activity. Its patented AI technology transforms these signals into intuitive controls that let the user take actions such as playing the music or answering a phone call without using their hands or voice. In this way, says Wisear, the technology enables  everyday devices to become natural extensions of our mind and intentions.

The R&D team has been working since the devices’ launch at Slush 2018 in November to reduce the size of the earphones and ensure it is robust for operation in any environment. “We now have two neural-based controls working with more than 98 per cent accuracy. Our technology performs similarly or better than any button on your everyday earphones, said Alain Sirois, CTO of Wisear.

“To develop this Wireless Earphones demo kit, we had to assess all the components and sensors on the market,” revealed Camille Rougier, head of hardware at Wisear.

The electronics architecture inside the earphone captures high quality bio signals and allows machine learning algorithms to run on the edge. “We are privacy first, no data leaves the device which separates us from most neurotechnology on the market today,” added Rougier.

The small, black mate polished, wireless earphones demo kit is similar to an early generation sports earphones but with an advanced human computer interface, said Wisear. The demo kits are available for purchase and are the last development step before a fully miniaturised and mass-consumer ready version that will be developed in the coming months, said the company.

Wisear will allow the public to try its brain-sensing earphones at CES 2023. It will be part of the French Tech delegation in the Eureka Park at The Venetian. (CES Las Vegas 05 to 08 January).
