New Yorker Electronics adds Vishay’s EP2 wet tantalum capacitors
Distributor, New Yorker Electronics now offers Vishay Intertechnology’s wet tantalum capacitor for military and avionics applications. According to the manufacturer delivers the industry’s highest capacitance per voltage rating and case size for this device type. The Vishay EP2 wet tantalum capacitor is available with radial through-hole terminations with a stud mount option in the B and C case codes. The Vishay EP2 series can be used as an exact drop-in replacement for competing parts or as a higher capacitance alternative in a mechanically equivalent package to reduce component counts, save space and lower design costs, said New Yorker Electronics.
The capacitor series is built on Vishay’s SuperTan technology. The latest device features high capacitance from 2,700 to 48,000 microF in the B case code and 3,600 to 72,000 microF in the C case code. Voltage ratings for the capacitor range from 25 to 125V DC. The EP2’s capacitance is 9,000 microF at 80V and 58,000 microF at 35V in the C case size. These values are 50 per cent and 21 per cent greater, respectively, than the closest competing device, said New Yorker Electronics. The capacitor features a standard capacitance tolerance of ± 20 per cent, with ± 10 per cent tolerance available.
Optimised for pulse power and energy hold-up applications in laser guidance, radar, and avionics systems, the EP2 is housed in an all-tantalum, hermetically sealed case for increased reliability. Offering robust mechanical performance, the capacitor features high vibration (high frequency: 20g; random: 19.64g) and mechanical shock (50g) capabilities.
The device operates over a temperature range of -55 to +85 degrees C, to +125 degrees C with voltage derating, and provides maximum ESR down to 0.017 Ohm at 1kHz and +25 degrees C. The capacitor is available with tin / lead (Sn / Pb) and RoHS-compliant 100 per cent tin terminations.
Samples and production quantities of the EP2 are available now through New Yorker Electronics, with lead times of 16 weeks for larger orders. New Yorker Electronics supplies Vishay discrete semiconductors (diodes, MOSFETs and infra red optoelectronics) and passive electronic components (resistors, inductors and capacitors).
