Nvidia Quadro GPU drives vision processing in Adlink’s rugged VITA 75 module

For military and aerospace applications, Adlink Technology has developed the rugged, VITA 75 custom off the shelf (COTS) HPERC-KBL. The size, weight and power (SWaP) -optimised computing platform is designed for mission-critical applications such as command, control, communications, computer, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C4ISR) and demanding environments, says Adlink.

The company created the Small Form Factor Tactical Edge Server (SFF-TES) group to optimise products for mission-critical computing which demand small systems that can handle both the data loads and physical stress common in edge and fog deployments. The HPERC-KBL demonstrates Adlink’s research, design, and manufacturing capabilities which can yield versatile solutions for military and aerospace needs.

The HPERC-KBL balances SWaP constraints against high compute performance and scalability. It features VITA 75 standard mounting, silent passive cooling and measures just 223.7 x 177.8 x 98.7mm (8.8 x 7.0 x 3.9-inches) for the conductive cold plate (MC) variant and 304.8 x 150.0 x 130.0mm (12.0 x 5.9 x 5.1-inches) for the finned passive convection variant (MH).

The compact module contains a quad-core Intel Xeon processor combined with 16Gbyte of ECC DDR4 memory. The processing performance can be enhanced with an optional Nvidia Quadro MXM module for general purpose graphics processor unit (GPGPU) -accelerated applications.

Removable SATA and SD storage provide data collection capabilities, while four Gigabit Ethernet and six USB ports via MIL-DTL-38999 connectors offer network and device connectivity in demanding edge settings. There is also an IP67-rated sealed enclosure, small enough to mount under a vehicle seat or carry in a backpack and the design is MIL-STD-461F/810G/704F/1275E –certified, making the HPERC-KBL suitable for highly mobile environments where constant movement or debris ingress cannot be allowed to interfere with data processing.

Adlink provides military and aerospace system integrators with fully-integrated, highly cost-effective, military standards-compliant COTS/MOTS products. The company designs and manufactures in-house.
