Orchard Audio’s GaN audio system reduces component count

Combining a DAC, streamer and amplifier, the Starkrimson Streamer Ultra is a 500W stereo GaN streaming hi-fi audio amplifier.

It represents a new kind of high end audio system, said the company, offering “commanding performance in a discreet package”. It can perform the same functions that once required a rack full of components, it added.

This design combines the company’s PecanPi DAC and Starkrimson Ultra amplifiers, based on GaN transistors from GaN Systems. These benefits include a size and weight reduction and increased power, efficiency, and sound quality. The design provides less harshness, cleaner highs, and better overall transparency and detail with inconsequential noise levels.

Starkrimson Streamer Ultra is available with either Volumio or Roon end-point software installed. It can be controlled with any smartphone, tablet, or PC.

For audio performance, it has fully balanced output. low noise and distortion and low jitter. It has native playback up to 24bit/192k and is 2 Ohm-capable.

The Starkrimson Streamer Ultra is available with either black or brushed aluminum faceplates, an optional USB port (Volumio only), and upgraded power rail capacitance.

Units are scheduled to begin shipping in late November 2021.

Orchard Audio has a range of DACs, streamers, and amplifiers for home entertainment, listening rooms or recording studios. The products are manufactured in the USA.
