PCB-based relay is a small box for the wall box for EV charging
Switching operations in the EV charging station infrastructure, including the introduction of efficient domestic wall boxes demand compact, robust and high performance components, said Panasonic Industry as it introduced the HE-R relay.
It is believed to be the first PCB-based relay that can be used as the main switching element in three-phase systems. The compact relay saves space and cost. Each of the four NO contacts is able to switch 40A up to an ambient temperature of +85 degrees C. The relay also has a low coil holding power. An optional NC contact for feedback contact can handle low level loads down to 10mA / 5V DC.
“Because of its outstanding ratio of size, power and robustness, the IEC62955 compliant HE-R relay is the perfect choice for contemporary and demanding AC/DC wall box designs”, claimed Panagiotis Venardos from Panasonic Industry Europe. Designers can control three-phase systems directly on the PCB which has applications not only for domestic wall boxes, but also for AC or DC charging stations and other fields of application, such as industrial automation or energy harvesting.
The HE-R relay measures 35 x 58 x 47mm and is VDE-certified for short circuit capability according to IEC 62955 and has a mirror contact structure according to IEC 60947-4-1.
