PIP4 computers are certified for EN 50155 and IEC 60945

Developed for use in rugged applications, such as railway, maritime or defence, the PIP4x family by MPL is EN 50155 Class Tx and IEC 60945-verified. The rugged, flexible and fanless embedded computers use the ninth generation Intel CPUs.

The computers were designed by MPL engineers and based on the PIP form factor which was introduced more than 25 years ago. The computers are designed for long-term availability, assures the company. They are designed and manufactured in Switzerland. All components are stocked by MPL to guarantee they will be supported and repaired, even years after end of life.

The PIP4x family uses Intel Xeon, Intel i7, i3 and Celeron CPUs. They have up to 64Gbyte registered DDR4 memory; some models have ECCDDR4. They feature one m.2 Key-A (USB2.0, PCIe 2×1, up to 3042 module size, WIFI) and one m.2 Key-B (USB3.0, up to 3042 module size, LTE) and one m.2 Key-M (SATA or PCIe 4×1, up to 2280 module size). There are also two mPCIe/mSATA socket with SATA 3.0 and  USB 2.0, two SATA 3.0 / one NVMe or SATA SSD and up to seven LAN ports and four RS232 or RS422/485 (optional) ports.

There are expansion capabilities for general purpose GPU on MXM, PCIe (eg. RAID, AI, high end graphics or XMC modules).

The PIP4x Family is available in the MPL standard housing with DIN-rail or flange mounting. Enclosures with IP67 or 19-inch rack versions are available. The open frame version (CPU board on cooling plate) is intended for installation in existing cabinets and areas where space is limited. For applications in an environment subject to vibration, the computer can be supplied with M12.

MPL’s railway products are EN50155-certified and undergo environmental testing to ensure reliable performance under a variety of conditions. The PIP4x product family has been tested from -40 to +85 degrees C, called Tx in the EN 50155 Standard. It also includes the railways standard EMC and mechanical tests.

The PIP4x Family will be available for at least 10 years. MPL’s own component stock guarantees repairs for up to 20 years. Extended temperature ranges can be fulfilled and are tested in MPL’s own climatic chambers to customer’s request.
