PIR environmental sensors are sensitive and fast for industrial use

Environmental pyroelectric passive infra red (PIR) sensors have been added to the environmental PIR sensors offered by Kemet. By using the pyroelectric effect, these thin-film PZT sensors have both high sensitivity and fast response times, says Kemet, to ensure rapid and accurate detection of gas, flame, motion, food and organic compounds for industrial automation, lighting, power generation and distribution.

Built with hybrid micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS) technology, the environmental sensors are packaged in a small, surface mount device (SMD) for use in portable and battery powered detectors. They are characterised by low power consumption, low maintenance and low sensitivity to mechanical and thermal shock, ensuring a stable performance and a lifespan of up to 15 years. Target applications are therefore small, smart, or IoT devices in industrial, consumer, automotive and medical applications. They are compatible with industry-standard I2C communication to enable plug-and-play connectivity to microcontrollers, which in turn allows them to be configured, tuned and calibrated easily.

Kemet’s environmental PIR sensors use the standard semiconductor manufacturing process, suitable for use in industrial applications.

Kemet is a subsidiary of Yageo and supplies a broad selection of capacitor technologies, an expanding range of electromechanical devices, electromagnetic compatibility solutions and super capacitors.
