Planar transformers are optimised for high power, high density applications

Frequency-optimised planar transformers from Premier Magnetics, the PM-PTxxx series include models rated up to 250W.

The transformers are designed for forward converter, full/half bridge and active clamp applications using switching frequencies between 200 and 700kHz, confirms Premier Magnetics.  Proprietary layout techniques for the circuit board windings optimise transformer impedance and inter-winding capacitance effects in the desired operating frequency range.

The PT series devices provide isolation (up to 2250V DC), operate over a wide temperature range (-40 to +125 degrees C), demonstrate efficiency up to 99 per cent. In addition, the planar construction improves heat dissipation, compared with classic wire-wound transformers.

The designs are optimised to meet their requirements for higher power density, higher-efficiency power conversion in switch mode power supplies and in electric vehicle, industrial, aerospace and solar applications.

Premier Magnetics focuses on the design and manufacturing of a broad range of magnetics components, including power conversion magnetics, data bus transformers, and LAN magnetics. Premier provides products to the aerospace, computer, industrial, and medical industries, as well as various government and military agencies around the world. It has sales and distribution offices worldwide, with manufacturing locations in Southern California, Taiwan and China.
