Positronic’s Scorpion connector offers modular configuration, says Lane Electronics

Versatile modular power/signal Scorpion connectors by Positronic are available from Lane Electronics. The authorised distributor for Positronic, says that the manufacturer’s modular tooling produces a one-piece insulator resulting in more than 35 modules providing nearly limitless pin configurations. Modules can be combined up to a maximum connector length of 101mm. Blank modules are available for greater creepage and clearance for higher voltage needs. There are also venting options for improved air cooling and locking systems for blind mating, float mount and cable connector options.

The complete range of standard and low-profile Scorpion modular connectors can be configured for use as a power connector, a signal level connector, or a combination of both, for power/signal contact configurations. The Scorpion series connectors may be used for board to board, panel to cable, cable to cable or board connectivity.

There is a Standard Profile (14.60mm height) and Low Profile (8.20mm height) and versions which comply to the OCP Open Rack specification used for data centre equipment.

There is also a range of connecting options including crimp, straight and 90 degree solder as well as straight press-fit (solderless) PCB termination. Signal contacts can be mixed with power contacts rated to 80A each.

Housings can be specified with optional ventilation slots for increased cooling and sequential mating for ‘first mate last break’ when plugging and unplugging live circuits.

The Scorpion connectors are suitable for industrial, military or aerospace applications.

Nick Wheeler, sales director of Lane Electronics, said: “Scorpion provides the flexibility to configure the connector to meet customer’s exact specifications. The difference is how Positronic builds the final connector, using an innovative tooling and injection moulding process. The result is a Scorpion connector with a solid body and machined contacts, ready to perform.”

Lane Electronics can supply a full selection of accessories to add to the versatility of the Scorpion series.

Customers can also specify Positronic’s proprietary PosiBand contact, a true closed entry contact with an unbroken ring of solid material right at the face of the contact. This overcomes the weaknesses inherent in the design typical in many closed entry female contacts manufactured by other connector manufacturers. The PosiBand contact provides a greater surface area at the female / male contact interface assures greater reliability, confirmed Lane. It requires a lower insertion force which is very important in high density connector systems and features very low contact resistance levels. The Posiband contact is available for contacts 22, 18, 16 and 12.

Lane Electronics – also known as FC Lane Electronics – is part of the Lodge Group which includes high reliability circular and military connector manufacturer Weald Electronics.

Lane Electronics is a franchised distributor for many of the industry’s leading electrical and electronic connector manufacturers including Huber + Suhner, Souriau, Radiall and Pancon.
