Potentiometers and encoders save space in audio, industrial and medical equipment

Four product lines have been added to TT Electronics’ variable resistor portfolio. The three encoder lines and the single turn potentiometers offer high reliability and high performance in a compact footprint, said the company.

All of the devices are suitable for professional audio applications as well as medical and industrial applications, including machine controls and home appliances. “These new product families offer high performance in compact packaging, optimized for demanding applications where space is limited,” said Brian Stephenson, director of engineering at TT Electronics.

The EN10, EN16AB and EN18AB new encoder families provide product designers with flexibility to implement human interfaces in an ergonomic and aesthetic fashion, said TT. The EN10 encoders feature an insulated hollow shaft and have an IP40 rating. They offer a rotational life of 100,000 cycles (minimum) in a 10mm package.

The EN16AB includes an IP51 rating in a 16mm packaging and the EN18AB is available in either IP51 or IP67 versions in an 18mm footprint. Both EN16AB and EN18AB are designed for rotational life of 30,000 cycles minimum and maintain positional information should power loss occur.

The PHS21 series rotary potentiometers convert rotary motion into a change of resistance, resulting in a smooth transition of voltage or current levels. The potentiometers have a power rating of 0.5W and are designed to meet modern soldering processes. They feature a rotational life of 50,000 cycles, minimum.

TT Electronics provides engineered technologies for performance critical applications. It addresses healthcare, aerospace, defence, electrification and automation markets and invests in R&D to create designed-in products where reliability is mission critical. Products designed and manufactured include sensors, power management and connectivity solutions. TT has design and manufacturing facilities in the UK, North America, Sweden, and Asia.
