PXI/PXIe multiplexer module supports MIL-STD-1553 testing

Available in single or dual 4:1, 8:1 or 16:1 differential configurations, the latest PXI/PXIe multiplexer module from Pickering Interfaces are optimised for MIL-STD-1553 testing applications.

The model 40/42-739 multiplexer module has a differential bandwidth of 450MHz, which exceeds the requirements of MIL-STD-1553.

Using telecommunications-grade electromechanical relays, the 40/42-739 multiplexer has a minimal initial signal path resistance of less than 450mOhm. It also has impedance-controlled differential pairs with a single-ended characteristic impedance of 39 Ohm and a differential impedance of 78 Ohm which is within the MIL-STD-1553-specified range of 70 to 85 Ohm. The compact, single-slot footprint with PXI or PXIe control interface minimises chassis slot count.

Originally introduced in the 1970s, MIL-STD-1553 was intended for use in military aircraft. However, now it is used as the basis for ground-based military vehicles, weapons systems, commercial aircraft and space applications. Steve Edwards, switching product manager for Pickering Interfaces, said: “The 40/42-739 should have many applications in aerospace and military ATE systems . . . and . . . can potentially support applications for 75 Ohm switching such as for video signals.”

The 40/42-739 PXI/PXIe multiplexer module is supported by the Pickering Interfaces’ eBIRST diagnostic tool for maintenance and fault-finding. A spare relay enables customers with applicable SMT rework training to repair the module on-site if required, to minimise system downtime. Pickering also offers a range of standard and custom interconnect accessories for the 40/42-739 family.

Pickering Interfaces designs and manufactures modular signal switching and simulation for use in electronic test and verification. It claims to offer the largest range of switching and simulation products in the industry for PXI, LXI, and PCI applications. These products are supported with cable and connector solutions, diagnostic test tools,  application software and software drivers created by the in-house software team.

Pickering’s products are specified in test systems installed throughout the world. The company operates globally with direct operations in the US, UK, Germany, Sweden, France, Czech Republic and China, together with additional representation in countries throughout the Americas, Europe and Asia. It currently serves all electronics industries including, automotive, aerospace and defence, energy, industrial, communications, medical and semiconductor.
