Quarter brick module supports 48V conversion for ITE

A non-isolated digital DC/DC converter for compute and telecomms equipment is Advanced Energy Industries’ first non-isolated bus converter in an industry standard, quarter brick format for 48V power conversion in compute and telecomms applications.

Operating at up to 900W with efficiencies up to 97 per cent, the Artesyn NDQ900 DC/DC converter provides a single, regulated 12.25V output and incorporates a PMBus interface for digital control and monitoring.

It has a wide 40 to 60V DC input range, making it suitable for high power computing, networking, telecommunications, data storage and test and measurement applications which require a regulated 48 to 12V bus conversion. A flat efficiency curve ensures that the quarter brick module delivers optimum power conversion performance for a wide range of loads, added Advanced Energy.

The NDQ900 is built around a baseplate construction which improves thermal management and simplifies the attachment of a heatsink. With forced air cooling, the module can deliver full power over an operating temperature range of -40 to around +85 degrees C.

The NDQ900 is a fixed frequency converter with no minimum load requirement. An active current sharing capability facilitates the connection of multiple power supplies in parallel, which is beneficial for applications requiring higher load current or redundancy. In addition to PMBus connectivity, the module offers a remote control function and a power good signal.

Safety features include an integrated under-voltage lockout (UVLO) function and protection against over-current, over-voltage and over-temperature conditions. The NDQ900 is covered with a two-year warranty.

Advanced Energy Industries designs and manufactures precision power conversion, measurement and control solutions for mission-critical applications and processes. Its customers operate in a wide range of industries including semiconductor equipment, industrial production, medical and life sciences, data centre computing, networking and telecommunications.

The company combines engineering expertise with responsive service and support for customers around the globe. The company is headquartered in Denver, Colorado, USA.
