Quarter brick modules raise power densities, says Flex Power Modules

The latest addition to the quarter brick, non-isolated DC/DC converters by Flex Power Modules raise power density levels, said the company. The BMR351 has a 40 to 60V input range and a delivers a non-isolated but fully regulated output of 12.2V nominal.

Rated output current is 136A continuous (1600W max) and 200A peak for up to 500ms (2320W max). In addition, the converter has high efficiency levels, peaking at over 98%, and with a typical value of 97.8% at 54Vin and half load.

BMR351 converters can be paralleled using the droop load sharing technique for higher power. They also include a PMBus interface for configuration, monitoring and control, with the output adjustable over the range of 8V to 13.2V. Hardware pins are provided for remote sense, power good and remote control. The company’s event data recorder is also implemented if diagnostics are needed after fault occurrences.

The BMR351 is intended for baseplate cooling and is characterised for a component hotspot temperature of 125 degrees C. Comprehensive thermal management allows safe peak power operation with fast and timed over-temperature protection, with an alert signal to indicate impending thermal shutdown.

The converter has input under-voltage lockout and output short-circuit, over-voltage, and over-current protection.

It is also supported by the Flex Power Designer tool for electrical and thermal simulation in the end-application.

The DC/DC converter’s maximum power density and high peak power rating make it suitable for server and cloud applications, said the company.

Flex Power Modules, a Flex business, manufactures scalable DC/DC power converters primarily serving the data processing, communications, industrial and transportation markets. Offering a wide range of both isolated and non-isolated solutions, the company’s digitally-enabled DC/DC converters include PMBus compatibility.
