R-Car E3 SoC adds 3D graphics for instrument clusters

The addition of the R-Car E3 SoC to the R-Car family by Renesas Electronics, allows high-end 3D graphics for the largest displays used for automotive instrument clusters, i.e. 12.3 inches, 1,920 x 720 pixels.

The SoC combines smooth 3D rendering capabilities with integrated audio DSP and other peripheral functions to supports instrument clusters as well as in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems with display audio and other capabilities.

The R-Car E3 SoC also offers the functional safety and security functions that are essential for connected cars, says Renesas, with features designed to simplify the task of developing robust systems capable of dealing safely with both malfunctions and cyberattacks

It shares the scalability of the R-Car H3 and R-Car M3 for integrated cockpits as well as the R-Car D3 for instrument clusters. Renesas partner companies can provide operating systems (OS) and HMI tools as well as system integration support to ease development and extend software support from the high-end graphics of premium class vehicles, to  entry-class vehicles.

Samples of the R-Car E3 SoC are available now. Mass production is scheduled to begin in December 2019.
