Recom offers 16:1 input DC/DC for rail applications

The quarter brick RPA150Q is Recom’s 16:1 wide input, high isolation DC/DC converter. The 150W DC/DC converter is suitable for rail and harsh industrial applications.

The input range of the RPA150Q series is 14.4 to 170V (200V for one second), and is fully regulated available outputs are 12, 24, or 54V DC with wide +10/-20 per cent trim range (+18/-20 per cent for 24V output). With sufficient airflow, 150W output is available from -40 degrees C up to at least +65 degrees C for every variant, or to at least 75 degrees C with baseplate cooling. With derating, operation to a baseplate temperature of +105 degrees C is possible.

The DC/DC converter series features 4.242kV/1 min reinforced isolation with safety certifications to EN/UL 62368-1 and CAN/CSA-C22.2 N0. 62368-1 up to 5500m altitude. There is also functional and safety compliance to rail standards EN 50155 and EN 45545-2. The RPA150Q series will operate down to 12V and up to 200V for one second, allowing for dips and surges across various nominal voltages from 24V to 110V DC defined by rail standards EN 50155 and RIA12, with some margin.

It meets EMC standards EN 55022 and EN 55011 and EN 50121-3-2 for rail applications can be met with external filtering. The RPA150Q series is fully featured with trim, remote sense, and remote on/off control. There is also under-voltage lockout, over-temperature, and output over-voltage and over-current protection.

To suit the typical high shock and vibration rail environment, the product complies with EN 61373 and includes threaded inserts for secure mounting to a PCB or bulkhead.

The RPA150Q series can also be used in industrial applications, where its compact quarter brick size is useful in space-constrained designs requiring a wide input range. “The ultra-wide input range means only one part in the standard quarter-brick format can be used to cover multiple nominal inputs and their surges and transients,” said “Matthew Dauterive, DC/DC product manager at Recom.
