Richardson RFPD offers Macom’s MRI protection diode

Designed to protect MRI receivers from high RF energy fields, the MADP-009989 diode from Macom Technology Solutions is a diode for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) applications.

Distributor, Richardson RFPD, has announced the availability of, and design support capabilities for, the diode.

The MADP-009989 diode was designed to protect MRI receivers from high RF energy fields, including long RF pulses and RF spike pulses which are present in most MRI machines, says Richardson RFPD. The diode acts as a passive protector (limiter) for the MRI receiver. No forward bias voltage is required to turn on the diode. It is self-biased by the RF transmitter pulse power. A switch driver is not needed for this receiver protection application, notes Richardson RFPD.

The diode is available in two package configurations, wither surface mount or axial lead. The passivated chip is suitable for MRI receiver protection and body coil isolation applications.

The non-cavity design has a low capacitance of 1.2pF at 0V bias (typical) and low conductance of 1.2pF (typical) at 0V bias.

The diode is compatible with automatic insertion equipment.

Richardson RFPD is an Arrow Electronics company, specialising in the RF and wireless communications, power conversion and renewable energy markets. Richardson RFPD’s worldwide design centres and technical sales team provide comprehensive support for customers, from prototype to production.
