RS-485 module is smallest available, says Maxim

An isolated RS-485 module transceiver from Maxim is claimed to double efficiency in a package that is 35 per cent smaller than competing options, says the company. The module is available in a land grid array (LGA) package which measures 9.35 x 11.5mm, which is 35 per cent smaller than competitive solutions, according to Maxim.

The MAXM22511 isolated RS-485 module transceiver brings intelligence to the edge of typically noisy industrial environments where efficiency and robustness are required. The MAXM22511 2.5kV isolated RS-485/RS-422 module transceiver with power simplifies and shrinks the design of field bus communications systems for factory automation, motor control and other industrial IoT applications.

It is the first in a family of isolated communications ICs from the company. The integrated module eliminates the need for discrete digital isolators, transceivers, transformers and transformer drivers while also reducing bill of materials.

The MAXM22511 supports 25Mbit per second data rates while providing 60 per cent DC/DC efficiency, which is two times better than competitors’, claims the company. It also has ±35kV electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection, claimed to be two times better than provided by competitors’.

An evaluation kit, the MAXM22511EVKIT is also available.
