Rugged 4U MTCA.1 chassis has 12 AMC slots and keep cool with sensors

Embedded board manufacturer, VadaTech, has announced the VT931, a rugged MicroTCA chassis that provides 12 AMC slots. It can accept any AMC.1, AMC.2, AMC.3 and/or AMC.4 modules. The chassis has perforated bottom and top covers for airflow from the upper fan tray. The VT931 is a 4U version of the VadaTech VT930 and has an additional integrated removable upper cooling unit.

The VT931 chassis is designed to MicroTCA.1 specification for rugged applications. It has a Dual Star backplane configuration with 40GbE or PCIe Gen3 capability. The VT931 has dual redundant field replacement unit (FRU) information and carrier locators and the carrier locator is assigned by mechanical dip switches which are easily accessible, says VadaTech. The switches are removable for the backplane to remain passive. The MicroTCA carrier hub (MCH) reads the locator via its private I2C bus, notes VadaTech.

The VT931 backplane supports up to 40GbE or PCIe based on a VadaTech design optimised for signal integrity. For cooling during operation, the VT931 provides a compact cooling configuration with a single intelligent cooling unit to optimise the use of space for electronics. The cooling airflow direction is from bottom to top. In addition, there are multiple temperature sensors in the chassis that monitor the in and out air temperature throughout the chassis. The sensors can be monitored by a management controller over redundant intelligent platform management interface (IPMI) bus. The cooling unit is located at the top of the AMC slots in a pull configuration. The fan tray is removable, allowing easy maintenance of the system over time.

VadaTech provides embedded computing from board-level products, chassis-level platforms, to configurable application-ready systems. The company focuses on AdvancedTCA, MicroTCA, VPX and PCIe and offers a combination of electrical, mechanical, software, and system-level expertise to provide customised commercial or rugged computing for most complex customer requirements.

VadaTech also offers specialised products for VME, CompactPCI, and other architectures. The company is a member of PICMG and VITA.

VadaTech has headquarters, design and manufacturing facilities in Henderson, NV with design, support and sales offices in Europe and Asia Pacific.
