Rutronik UK adds Redpine Signals’ SoCs and modules for IoT devices

Low power, multi-protocol wireless SoCs and modules in Redpine Signals’ RS9116 family are available from Rutronik UK in hosted (nLinkTM) or embedded (WiSeConnectTM) software architecture. They have multiple host interfaces (SDIO, USB, SPI, UART) making them versatile for battery-operated IoT devices.

The RS9116 family has an internal protocol arbitration manager, which manages the protocols dual band (2.4 and 5GHz) 802.11 a/b/g/n, 802.11j, dual-mode Bluetooth 5 and 802.15.4 for Thread and ZigBee.

The SoCs’ and modules’ architecture enables the industry’s lowest Wi-Fi standby associated power of less than 50 microA. The battery life of IoT devices, such as security cameras, smart locks, video doorbells, industrial sensors or location tags, is extended three to four times compared to competing solutions by the use of RS9116 components, claims Rutronik.

The multiple levels of security include FIPS 140-2 and physically unclonable function (PUF), for a secure system for IoT devices.

The modules of the series are footprint-compatible, for migration to others within the product family. To save space on the circuit board, housing dimensions are as small as 4.63×7.90mm for single band and 9.1×9.8mm for dual band modules.

Rutronik UK (parent company, Rutronik Elektronische Bauelemente GmbH) operates as an independent company with a team of qualified, experienced UK employees.

The parent company is one of the leading broadline distributors for semiconductors, passive and electromechanical components in addition to storage technologies, displays and boards and wireless products. The company primarily targets automotive, medical, industrial, home appliance, energy and lighting markets.
