Sensirion qualifies SHT4xA digital sensor for automotive use

The SHT4xA digital humidity sensor is now available for automotive applications worldwide, announced Sensirion. The company has added the digital automotive sensor SHT4xA to its established range of humidity and temperature sensors. The sensor has an integrated diagnostic capability, AEC-Q100 product qualification, optional wettable flanks and low annual drift, reported Sensirion, to set “the highest standards for demanding applications”.

The SHT4xA is based on Sensirion’s CMOSens technology. It was developed specifically for automotive applications and meets the most demanding reliability requirements, such as accelerated lifetime tests at 85 degrees C / 85 per cent RH. In addition, an integrated heater enables chip self-diagnostics throughout its operating life.

The sensor is available in different accuracy classes and with an I2C or pulse width modulation interface. The optional wettable flanks of the DFN housing enable automatic optical inspection (AOI) after surface mounting of the PCB. Accuracy tolerances down to ±2 per cent RH and ±0.2 degrees C are achieved over the full measurement range of 0 per cent RH to 100 per cent RH and from -40 to +125 degrees C. The operating voltage range is 2.3 to 5.5V. Optional protection using an applied membrane or protective film provide splash water protection during production.

The SHT4xA digital humidity sensor is available immediately through direct sales as well as Sensirion’s distribution channels.

Sensirion develops and manufactures sensors that improve efficiency, health, safety, and comfort. Founded in 1998, Sensirion employs around 1’000 people at its headquarters in Stäfa, Switzerland and in international subsidiaries.

Sensirion sensors can be used to measure a wide range of environmental parameters and flow rates precisely and reliably. The company develops solutions for the specific needs of customers and partners from the automotive, industrial, medical technology and consumer electronics markets, as well as high-quality products for cost-efficient mass production.
