Shunt resistor stabilises AC, DC sensing
For industrial and automotive applications, TT Electronics has introduced the EBW8518 busbar-mounted shunt resistor for high current measurements.
The E-Beam Welded shunt resistor is an electron beam welded resistance element, sandwiched between large copper terminals with optional tin plating. It has one per cent tolerance, 100 parts per million (ppm)/ degrees C TCR, one microV/degreesC thermal EMF and separate ground pins to reduce errors.
The resistor has a low measurement error and low ohmic values reduces power loss. The EBW8518 operates in the 50 to 250 micro Ohm range.
The EBW8518’s low self-heating reduces equipment temperature and improves reliability for designers to manage temperature rise in compact power electronic assemblies, says TT Electronics. Stephen Oxley, senior applications engineer, applications and marketing, said: “The robust electron beam welded technology and low thermal EMF of this resistor make it advantageous for HEV battery management, energy metering and welding power supplies.”
The EBW8518 can replace products from key competitors, including the slightly different 8420 format, which is 1.0mm shorter and 2.0mm wider). Both formats have the same 60mm mounting hole pitch.
