Signal quality analyser supports USB4TM receiver test

Anritsu’s signal quality Analyzer-R MP1900A, combined with automation software from Granite River Labs or Teledyne LeCroy can control a connected oscilloscope and implement tests meeting the latest USB4 standards for 5G mobile communications and IoT devices.

The USB4TM receiver test solution is available now.

Smartphones, tablet PCs and other digital devices are adopting USB Type-C connectors which increase of the speed of interfaces to 20Gbits per second over two lanes for handling large video and data files.

USB4 compliance tests are being run in 2020. They place emphasis on the Tr/Tf and intrinsic jitter performance of the test signal source to assure measurement-system noise and jitter performance. To assure accurate measurement of device receiver sensitivity, the test is performed by calibrating the test signal according to the minimum input performance defined by the receiver standards. Automation of the BERT and oscilloscope combination is necessary to minimise the workload of signal calibration and optimise test reproducibility, explains Anritsu.

The signal quality Analyzer-R MP1900A is a high-performance BERT supporting USB tests and receiver tests of high-speed computing and data communications interfaces, such as PCI Express, Thunderbolt, and 400GbE/800GbE.

The analyser’s data output performance (12-ps Tr/Tf, and 115-fs rms intrinsic jitter) helps assure more accurate measurement of high-speed USB performance as required by the USB4 receiver test. In addition, when combined with Granite River Labs GRL-USB4-RXA or Teledyne LeCroy QPHY-USB4-TX-RX (USB4/TBT3 transmitter and receiver) automation software for automating signal calibration and testing, measurement of USB4 interfaces is highly reproducible, according to the latest standards while also reducing test workload.

Granite River Labs provides end-to-end engineering services and test solutions to help hardware engineers adopt high-speed interfaces.

Teledyne LeCroy manufactures advanced oscilloscopes, protocol analysers and other test instruments that verify performance, validate compliance, and debug complex electronic systems quickly and thoroughly.

Anritsu provides communications test and measurement solutions, to help customers develop wireless, optical, microwave/RF, and digital solutions for R&D, manufacturing, installation, and maintenance applications, as well as multi-dimensional service assurance solutions for network monitoring and optimisation. Anritsu also provides precision microwave/RF components, optical devices, and high-speed electrical devices for communication products and systems.
