Skeleton adds ultracapacitor module for medical devices and equipment

Specifically developed for the needs of the medical equipment industry, the SkelMod 131V module is the latest addition to Skeleton Technologies’ ultracapacitor product family.

The customised ultracapacitor module can be used for shaving peaks of power and to ensure sufficient power quality for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines.

Taavi Madiberk, CEO of Skeleton Technologies said: “Its key advantage is its low internal resistance, which leads to high power and long lifetime.  If there is a sector for which this is particularly critical, it is surely the medical sector.”

The ultracapacitors are equipped with compressed air coolers, which prolong their performance and life and make them suitable for additional applications, such as wind pitch control, kinetic energy recovery for elevators and uninterruptible power supplies.

SkelMod 131V is manufactured at Skeleton Technologies’ production facility in Germany and is shipping now.

Skeleton Technologies specialises in ultracapacitors and energy storage systems. It uses patented curved graphene to achieve breakthroughs in ultracapacitor performance and has commercialised ultracapacitors in automotive, transportation, grid and industrial applications.

According to the company, its ultracapacitors deliver four times the power density offered by other manufacturers, offering space, weight, and cost savings. The company’s customer base ranges from Tier One automotive firms and industrial equipment OEMs to truck fleet operators and aerospace prime contractors.

The company was founded in 2009 and has a manufacturing site in Germany and in Estonia.

In February, Skeleton launched SkelMod 17V, an ultracapacitor module specifically developed for wind turbine pitch control.
