Skyworks increases front-end modules for Wi-Fi 6 offering

Two front end modules have been release to extend the Skyworks portfolio for retail, carrier and enterprise Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) applications. The 2.4GHz SKY85334-11 and 5GHz SKY85750-11 offer best-in-class linearity, power dissipation and efficiency, claims Skyworks. They are suitable for access points, routers and gateways where regulatory, thermals or Power over Ethernet (PoE) limitations demand low current consumption. Both front end modules are packaged in a compact, 16-pin 3.0 x 3.0mm land grid array (LGA). The integrated SKY85334-11 and SKY85750-11 modules incorporate switching, a low-noise amplifier (LNA) with bypass and a power amplifier (PA).

The SKY85334-11, 2.4GHz wireless local area network (WLAN) front end module incorporates a 2.4GHz single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) transmit/receive (T/R) switch, a 2.4GHz LNA with bypass and a 2.4GHz PA with integrated digital pre-distortion (DPD) coupler.

The LNA and PA disable functions ensure low leakage current in off mode. An integrated logarithmic power detector provides closed-loop power control within the system.

The SKY85334-11 is provided in a compact, 16-pin 3.0 x 3.0mm land grid array (LGA) package.

In addition to routers and gateways, they are also suitable for wireless audio/video (A/V) applications.

The 5GHz SKY85750-11 WLAN front end module is equally integrated. It has a 5GHz SPDT T/R switch, a 5GHz LNA with bypass, and a 5GHz PA with integrated DPD coupler. It is also intended for 802.11ax applications and systems.

Like the SKY85334-11, the LNA and PA disable functions ensure low leakage current in off mode. The SKY85750-11 also has an integrated logarithmic power detector for closed-loop power control within the system.

The device is supplied in a 16-pin 3.0 x 3.0mm LGA package.

Skyworks’ Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) devices incorporate the required functionality to expedite time to market. The logarithmic power detector supports wide dynamic ranges, low power consumption and improved thermal management for maximum performance, says the company. It claims that its Wi-Fi 6 certified products enable the fastest download and upload speeds to deliver enhanced coverage, highly reliable connections in dense traffic areas and improved power efficiency.

Skyworks Solutions says it is empowering the wireless networking revolution with its analogue semiconductors used to connect people, places and things within the aerospace, automotive, broadband, cellular infrastructure, connected home, industrial, medical, military, smartphone, tablet and wearable markets.

Skyworks has engineering, marketing, operations, sales and support facilities throughout Asia, Europe and North America.
