Snap-in power aluminium capacitors increase ripple current and operating life

Higher power density and increased longevity are delivered by the Vishay BCcomponents 193 PUR-SI series of miniature snap-in power aluminium electrolytic capacitors, claims Vishay Intertechnology.

They offer up to 30 per cent higher ripple current than standard capacitors in similar case sizes while providing a longer useful life, continues the company.

Capacitance ranges from 47 to 850 microF

The capacitors can handle ripple currents up to 3.27A, to allow designers to use fewer components to save board space and to lower costs. They have a long useful life of 5,000 hours at +105 degrees C, ensuring they can be used in demanding applications requiring more than 25 years of lifetime from capacitors in ambient temperatures up to +60 degrees C.

The 193 PUR-SI devices have a cylindrical aluminium case, insulated with a blue sleeve and feature rated voltages to 500V in 25 compact case sizes ranging from 22 x 25mm to 35 x 60mm. The RoHS-compliant capacitors are also available with three-pin keyed polarity snap-in terminals.

The polarised aluminium electrolytic capacitors with a non-solid electrolyte are suitable for smoothing, buffering and DC-Link filtering in switch mode power supplies, motor drives, solar inverters, industrial air conditioners, and welding equipment.

Samples and production quantities of the 193 PUR-SI series capacitors are available now, with lead times of 14 weeks. Pricing depends on capacitance and voltage rating.

Vishay Intertechnology claims to be one of the world’s largest manufacturers of discrete semiconductors (diodes, MOSFETs, and infra red optoelectronics) and passive electronic components (resistors, inductors, and capacitors). The components it produces are used in virtually all types of electronic devices and equipment, in the industrial, computing, automotive, consumer, telecommunications, military, aerospace, power supplies, and medical markets.
