SoMs are configurable and secure for network traffic
System on Modules (SoMs) by SolidRun are intended for use in software-defined networking solutions, edge network security hardware and data processing units. The LX2-Lite Mini SoMs are based on NXP Semiconductors’ Layerscape LX2162A SoC and have a footprint of just 58 x 48mm. This is about a quarter the size of standard COM Express 7 model, says SolidRun. The company claims the LX2-Lite Mini SoM is the smallest 16-core SoM available to date.
The LX2-Lite SoMs are available in three versions: a 16-core version based on the NXP LX2162A, a 12-core version based on the NXP LX2122A, and an eight-core version based on the NXP LX2082A processor.
With 12 SerDes lanes, the LX2-Lite-based SoM supports up to four 25 Gbits per second Ethernet connections (up to a max of 100 Gbits per second) and up to eight PCIe Gen 3 connections concurrently. There are also several combinations of the two, notes SolidRun. Each SoM features a high speed USB 3.0 interface, and industrial connectivity options like UART and I2C. All SoMs feature up to 32Gbyte of DDR4 system memory, 8Gbyte of eMMC storage, 8Mbit serial peripheral interface (SPI) with 64Mbyte of flash memory and SD/MMC interface.
The LX2-Lite SoM includes embedded power management, memory, storage, and I/O sub-systems. It combines the efficiency of NXP’s 16nm FinFET process architecture and up to 16 Arm Cortex-A72 cores with advanced data path acceleration optimised for L2/3 packet processing, security offload, robust traffic management and quality of service. It also boasts a 50 Gbits per second security acceleration engine and 88 Gbits per second data compression engine to maximise network security and data routing application performance, adds SolidRun.
Developers can maximise the LX2-Lite SoM I/Os and SerDes lanes using the ClearFog LX2-Lite developer platform, introduced at the same time by SolidRun. This is designed for the creation of SD-WAN, network security and industrial control. It integrates networking, PCIe, USB and SATA connections, for a variety of hardware applications.
SolidRun LX2-Lite SoMs support Linux, as well as Debian, Ubuntu and Yocto developer operating systems.
The LX2162A, LX2122A and LX2082A SoMs based on the NXP LX2-Lite family of SOCs, as well as the ClearFog LX2-Lite developer platform are available today for pre-order through SolidRun. To help expedite the development process, customers will be provided with an optimized board support package, stable long-term support for select software distributions, access to SolidRun’s support tools and sample source code.
