Space-qualified splitters help meet production schedule, says Smiths Interconnect

Readily available, space tested and qualified splitters from Smiths interconnect, the SpaceNXT MWC series helps customers avoid expensive and time-consuming qualification procedures, says the company.

The series has been introduced to address the need to create a streamlined procurement experience. The SpaceNXT MWC series of high reliability, multi-way isolated splitters in high-frequency Ku-bands are specifically designed for space applications from medium earth orbit/ geosynchronous equatorial orbit (MEO/GEO) satellites to deep space probes.

The two-way Ku-band isolated splitters operate from 10.7 to 12.8GHz. It offers a compact, and low mass structure with field replaceable connectors that can be adapted for alternative mechanical or electrical arrangements.

The splitters have an insertion loss of less 1.4dB maximum and ad inter channel isolation of 35dB minimum.

They are EMC-shielded, RoHS-compliant and provided in a stackable aluminium casing. They are factory configurable to operate as a combiner or a splitter.

The SpaceNXT MWC series can be supplied to recognised testing sequences, simplifying the specification and definition process. This can help customers meet even the most aggressive project schedules and reduce their cost of ownership, argues Smiths Interconnect.

Testing is performed in- house and in compliance with general space qualification flows, incorporating industry-standard environmental requirements or custom screening and qualification flows provided by users, as preferred. The test sequence and limits were designed and selected by Smiths Interconnect on a worst-case combination based on user requirements.

The series is designed to offer the commercial satellite uplink band (downlink also available) with specific attention to achieving phase stable output amplitude characteristics.

The mechanical solution can support other operating bands, from X- to Ka, and can be made available in other configurations.

Smiths Interconnect provides technically differentiated electronic components, subsystems, microwave and radio frequency products that connect, protect and control critical applications in the commercial aviation, defence, space, medical, rail, semiconductor test, wireless telecommunications, and industrial market segments.
