Sub-miniature switches deliver fast response in gaming mice

Two sub-miniature switches have been designed by Omron Electronic Components to provide a fast response and a reassuring click in computer mice.

One, the D2FC series of mechanical switches offer a clear click response and long durability. The second, the D2FP optical switch, offers a faster response, and even high reliability in operation as well as reduced power consumption for the most demanding applications, said Omron.

They have been developed in house specifically for gaming mice. The D2FC switch series offers a fine snap action mechanism with a crisp, sharp feel and the distinctive feel valued by gamers. Operating force can be selected by the designer to suit the application and the device is durable with stable quality, confirmed Omron. The strong force type D2FC-7, for example, offers 1N operating force and a rated lifetime of five million operations. The light force type D2FC-7N offers 0.59N operating force with up to 20 million or 60 million operations to meet the needs of different market segments.

The D2FP optical switch builds on the performance of the D2FC but has a typical response time of 0.015ms, making it around 300 times faster than the D2FC mechanical switch. It also achieves “significantly superior” reliability with zero signal bounce. Its higher click rates and low friction ensure clear and smooth operation, with the same click response reassurance of the D2FC mechanical switches. The D2FP has a single-body design which is a practical advantage to mouse designer and manufacturers, explained the company.

The new D2FP and D2FC switches are available now from Omron Electronic Components Europe as well as its partners, authorised stockists and resellers.
