Super junction MOSFET meet e-mobility applications

Supporting the needs of the electro-mobility (e-mobility) market, the CoolMOS CFD7A series are silicon-based MOSFETs from Infineon Technologies. They can be used in both the power factor correction (PFC) and the DC/DC stage of on-board charger systems and high voltage-low voltage (HV-LV) DC/DC converters for electric vehicles (EVs).

The CoolMOS CFD7A series is compatible with system voltages up to 475V DC. Higher efficiency levels are made possible by the Kelvin-source concept reaching peak efficiency levels up to 98.4 per cent measured. The CFD7A devices allow reaching higher switching frequencies with low gate losses enabling more power-dense, leading to more compact designs, said Infineon.

The CoolMOS technology was tailored to meet the needs of the rough automotive environment, especially in terms of cosmic radiation and design robustness, added the company.

Infineon advises using its 650V CoolMOS CFD7A technology in combination with the D²PAK 7-pin package for enhanced efficiency, thermal behaviour and extended creepage distances.

The CoolMOS CFD7A family is manufactured on the highly automated 300mm production line, which contributes to reach the zero-defect target in mass production, claims Infineon.

The 650V CoolMOS CFD7A is available in TO-220, TO-247, TO-247 short leads, D²PAK 3-pin and D²PAK 7-pin packages.
