SYSGO releases ELinOS 8 for secure embedded Linux development

SYSGO has released ELinOS 8, the latest version of its industrial Linux platform for embedded and mission-critical applications. The update focuses on cybersecurity, regulatory compliance and expanded hardware support.

A key addition is automatic Software Bill of Materials (SBOM) generation, providing a complete inventory of software components in the industry-standard SPDX v3 JSON format. The SBOM supports vulnerability management, software traceability, licence compliance and emerging regulatory requirements, including the European Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).

ELinOS 8 also introduces enhanced security features, including ANSSI compliance verification tools, GCC Fortification Level 3 runtime protection, reproducible kernel and root filesystem builds, and improved audit support for RISC-V platforms.

The platform is based on the Linux 6.12 Long-Term Support (LTS) kernel, providing up to ten years of maintenance and security updates for applications in industrial automation, transport, aerospace, defence, medical and critical infrastructure.

Hardware support has been expanded with new Board Support Packages (BSPs) for processors from NXP, Toradex, TQ-Systems and AMD Xilinx. BSP maintenance has also been separated from the core product release cycle, allowing security updates and hardware support to be delivered independently.

ELinOS 8 provides a common development environment across Intel, Arm and RISC-V architectures, enabling developers to use the same tools and workflows across multiple hardware platforms. The platform includes more than 400 precompiled software packages and automatically configures the kernel and user space to generate an application-specific Linux system.

ELinOS 8 is available immediately with long-term support options for embedded system developers.
