TDK extends its range of rugged DC link capacitors for harsh environments

The B3277 series of film capacitors for DC link applications has been extended by TDK. The range of Epcos film capacitors now provides types for particularly harsh environmental conditions. The robustness has been verified in a temperature, humidity, bias (THB) test at 60 degree C, 95 per cent relative humidity, and the rated voltage for 1,000 hours. Special types are also available that are THB tested at 85 degree C, 85 per cent relative humidity, and the rated voltage for 1,000 hours.

The B3277 capacitors are designed for rated voltages of between 450 and 1,100V DC and offer capacitance values of between 1.5 and 120 micro F.

The maximum operating temperature of the RoHS-compatible film capacitors is 105 degree C. Depending on voltage and capacitance, the lead spacing is 27.5, 37.5, or 52.5mm. The types with the latter grid size are offered exclusively in a four-pin version. The company reports that at the rated voltage and an operating temperature of 85 degree C the service life of the self-healing capacitors is 50,000 hours.

Applications for the rugged B3277 capacitors include the DC link circuits of converters for photovoltaic systems, frequency converters and power supplies for industrial applications. TDK offers AEC-Q200 qualified capacitors available on request.
